Document ID: c03871499 Notice: HP ProLiant Servers: HP Dynamic Smart Array B120i and B320i Controllers - Driver Support and Configuration NOTICE: The information in this document, including products and software versions, is current as of the Release Date. This document is subject to change without notice. Last Updated: 2013-07-25 DESCRIPTIONHP Dynamic Smart Array B120i and B320i Controllers configured in HP servers require a proprietary HP device driver. HP recommends using the HP B120i/B320i driver because it provides disk drive compatibility with other Smart Array controllers, enables the use of familiar HP configuration, monitoring, and management software, and enables upgrading directly to a traditional Smart Array Controller if desired. Servers may also be configured to disable the Dynamic Smart Array Controller functionality and use non-RAID AHCI mode instead. Note: Information regarding driver support for HP B120i/B320i controllers under Linux and VMware is available in the following advisory: HP ProLiant Gen8 Servers - The HP Dynamic Smart Array B120i and B320i Controller Driver for Linux and VMware (hpvsa) Must Be Downloaded from HP.COM in Order to Use RAID Functionality http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03742583 DETAILSHP provides the proprietary Dynamic Smart Array Controller driver for the following operating systems:
The supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, and VMware ESX distributions (listed above) do not provide an HP Dynamic Smart Array Controller in-box driver. I'm having a bit of a nightmare with installing Windows Server 2008 R2 on an HP Proliant DL360e Gen8 server. To me it seems like a driver issue as the RAID controller is able to identify the disks without any problem. One thing that dawned on me though is that the server uses a SATA controller but the hard disks are SAS. HP ProLiant DL320e Gen8 Driver Scan Result. How to load RAID drivers for HP Proliant MicroServer Gen8
I am working with Microsoft on an issue and they have asked me to delete a file called Pending.XML which cannot be deleted while the OS is running. I am trying to boot the server from disc in recovery mode to delete the file from command prompt. It is a HP Microserver Gen8 with a B120i RAID controller.
The issue I'm having is that I cannot get the RAID drivers to load successfully to allow me to browse the filesystem. I tried a 2012 recovery disk, but it never prompted me to load drivers at all (Maybe it's a hidden shortcut?). I went to the tried and true 2008 disk, using drivers I got from here: http://tinyurl.com/o4csxau .
When using the 2008 disk I loaded several packages of drivers from the HP site under the listing 'Storage' and 'Storage Controller'. Two sets of drivers came back incompatible with my hardware. The third came back with a list of storage controllers but did not include the B120i controller I am using.

Does anyone know where the proper drivers can be found for this server/storage controller? Also, what is the proper way to load RAID drivers in a 2012 recovery disk?
TLDR: Can't figure out how to load RAID Drivers for an HP Microserver Gen8 with B120i RAID controller in recovery environment. 2012 disk doesn't prompt me for drivers, 2008 says none of the drivers are appropriate for the system.
